What you need to know about a Japan Visiting Friends and Relatives Visa:

Those who wish to travel to Japan to see their family and friends are eligible for this sort of visa (This is applicable if the applicant and the relative in Japan are related in the first, second, or third degree). The documents needed for this type of visa application are different from those required from tourist applicants, and further steps are taken to process it.

To find out if you’re eligible to apply for a VFR visa, we will guide you through the steps and procedures.

Who is eligible to apply for a Japan Visitor's Visa to see friends and family?

Only the following are considered to be eligible for a letter of invitation:

  • Spouse and children
  • Parents
  • Siblings
  • Grandparents and grandchildren
  • Uncle and Aunties
  • Nephews and Niece
  • Fiancé

In all other circumstances, a person who is more distant than a third-degree relative must wait until the Japanese Embassy relaxes the restrictions on the types of relationships that are considered acceptable before applying, unless they have an urgent reason to visit Japan right away, such as attending a wedding or relative's home for a medical emergency or funeral.
